Delhi: Sexual assault victims slam police for inaction
Most of them alleged that police showed resistance in registering a case.

b>New Delhi: Police on Friday faced flak from victims of sexual assault and their relatives for their alleged inaction in such cases. Some of the rape victims and their relatives from Delhi and neighbouring areas gathered at Jantar Mantar to narrate the ordeal they faced and subsequent alleged inaction by police.

A woman from Narela, whose neighbour allegedly attempted rape on her four-year-old daughter, alleged that police refused to register a case when she approached them. The case was registered after three days following intervention of a party, she said.

A 17-year-old girl from Sundernagari said that when she resisted a sexual assault attempt by four men of her locality, they attacked her. "I was kicked in my stomach and lower parts by them, when I gave them a reply for passing lewd comments. I called up at 100 but police reached 45 minutes late. They registered my complaint but no action was taken against the accused," she alleged.

At the gathering, an acid attack victim had also come from Bulandshahr and narrated her ordeal. She is suffering from 70 per cent acid burns and for the past four year she had undergone several surgeries. "I had approached the government for financial help but got only Rs 50,000 that too in a way as if we are beggars and I am not supposed to use that amount for treatment at private hospital," she said.
