New Delhi: To ensure proper toilet facilities in government schools in the city, the Delhi government is carrying out sanitation and renovation works in its educational institutions in this regard.
In order to deal with poor condition of toilets in government schools, the Education department has set up a time limit of three working days to make the toilets fully functional by carrying out necessary repairs and maintenance work, officials from the Education department said on Friday.
In 1007 government schools across the city, there are around 2,4548 toilets for the students, the Directorate of Education said. "In this scenario, the real challenge is not the number but the lack of maintenance of toilets. Blockage in toilets and lack of sanitation facilities cause inconvenience to students especially girls," an official said.
The Education Department has issued necessary directions to all school heads to ensure proper maintenance of toilets. The officials said the Education Department has received several proposals for the approval of major repairs and construction of new toilets in the schools after the issuance of the order.
