The American Center New Delhi, in collaboration with Taj Enlighten Film Society, will host the 'Spirit of New York' Film Festival, from September 9 to 11, 2011.
The festival will showcase films that illustrate the eternal spirit, hope and vibrancy of the great city of New York. This event marks a decade of resilience since the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
The festival will screen films which depict New York as a city through the ages, covering a span of six decades. It will kick start with the classic 'My Man Godfrey,' a renowned Gregory Le Cava film and a multiple Oscar nominee, which features performances by famous movie stars of the 1930s, William Powell and Carole Lombard.
The festival will also feature 'On the Town', middle-era classics like 'The Apartment' and two great films by the legendary New Yorker and American film director, Woody Allen, 'Annie Hall' and 'Manhattan'. The images shot by Gordon Willis for Woody Allen in both of these films will marvel audiences as they unfold on the big screen.
The closing films of the festival are 'Coming to America' and comic-mystery, 'Six Degrees of Separation', which stars Will Smith in one of his earlier roles. These films represent the diversity of film genres and offer a variety that is inherent to the nature of the great city itself. The range of works in the festival includes stories about New York as told by some of the greatest film directors produced by the country, from Gregory La Cava to Woody Allen, and from Billy Wilder to comedian John Landis.
The festival will also mark the opening of an extraordinary exhibition, 'Spirit of New York', a 3-D display in the American Center that will portray memorable buildings, landmarks and parks, each of which has its own story. Through these photographs, the viewer will get a true snapshot of the transition and history of the spirit of New York.
The Festival begins on September 9 at 6:00 p.m. Entry is free and open to all, but a photo identify card is required for access to the American Center.
