Glasgow: Indian Lawn Bowls men's fours team reached the semi-finals after beating Norfolk Island 26-4 in the Commonwealth Games here on Thursday.

The Indian team of Kamal Kumar Sharma, Chandan Kumar Singh, Samit Malhotra and Dinesh Kumar defeated their opponents in the quarterfinals at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls ground here.

They now play England team in the semifinals. Samit said that they were nervous but pulled it off through team effort.

"It was a very big game so we were nervous, but nervousness helps. Everyone had a part to play and despite the anxiety we played very well. We were lucky at times. Twice they removed their nearest bowl to give us five (shots). We have never scored a seven at this level before either which really helped us."

"Our first target was to qualify (from the group). We have never played at this level before. We were playing well amongst ourselves but we never knew we would be this good in the competition."

On the status of lawn bowls in India, he said, "The girls team came fourth at the last Commonwealth Games and it did nothing for the sport, so we need a medal for people to take notice of the sport back home."
