Custody of AMRI accused extended till Jan 19
All the accused have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligence.

Kolkata: A city court on Thursday rejected bail prayers and extended the judicial custody of six directors and two officers of AMRI Hospital, where 93 people died after inhaling poisonous smoke from a fire, till January 19.

Rejecting their bail prayers, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Alipore court SM Shahnawaz extended the judicial custody of directors RS Goenka, SK Todi, Prashant Goenka, Manish Goenka, Ravi Todi, Dayanand Agarwal and officers S Upadhyay and Sanjib Pal till January 19.

The court observed that the investigation was in an initial stage and as such their bail prayers could not be entertained.

The prosecution opposed the bail pleas and prayed for extension of the judicial custody of the accused.

All the six directors were in police custody till December 23 and then sent to judicial remand, while the two officers were in police custody till December 26, following which they were sent to judicial remand.

Another director RS Agarwal is under treatment at the state-run SSKM hospital.
