Guangzhou: India's Aditya Mehta secured bronze after losing to Chun Marco Fu Ka of Hong Kong 1-4 in the semifinals of the men's snooker singles event, here on Saturday, as the Indian cuesports contingent finished their Asian Games campaign with four medals, including one gold won by Pankaj Advani in the billiards event.
Aditya, who surprised Singapore's Boon Chin Ang to win the best of seven frames in the quarterfinal 4-3 on Friday night, went down 20-62 7-60 68-55 15-59 21-71 against Marco Fu Ka on the final day of the snooker event.
Aditya displayed fine potting skills against Marco Fu Ka but his efforts proved short of creating an upset as the higher seed opponent reigned supreme on the green baize with two half-century breaks in the second and fifth frame.
"We were eyeing a gold in the snooker singles after Aditya reached the semifinals, but nevertheless we are happy that at least he won a bronze medal for the country. With this medal, we bettered our Doha edition's performance where we had won three medals (gold, silver and bronze each)," said Team manager Ravi Tandon.
Last night, another Indian medal hope in the snooker singles, Advani crashed out of the event, losing 1-4 to Junhui Ding of China in the pre-quarterfinals.
The other two medals won by India in the quadrennial mega-event were in men's snooker team event (silver) and men's 8-ball pool (bronze by Alok Kumar).
