THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF liaison committee will meet here on Wednesday in the backdrop of various unresolved issues, including the IUML demand for a fifth minister, early swearing-in of Anoop Jacob and finalising the Neyyatinkara bypoll candidate. The meet is being held amidst a general feeling among all UDF partners that the inept handling of the fifth minister issue has brought down the image of the government considerably. The meet is expected to make a concerted bid to break the political deadlock faced by the Chandy government. There are also indications that smaller coalition partners will raise issues demanding their due share on various matters. The Congress is trying its level best to prevail upon the IUML leadership to be accommodative, but the latter is reportedly unwilling to forgo its basic demand.Efforts will be made to reach an understanding in informal talks between coalition partners in the morning and the evening meet will formalise it, according to indications.KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said in New Delhi after discussions with the central leadership of the Congress that a solution will come after the scheduled UDF meet.IUML leader and Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty also sounded optimistic after a secretariat meet of the party that a solution will be worked out to the satisfaction of all.
