KOCHI: The students were at their creative best, demonstrating their skills in their favourite subjects, at the Revenue District Science Fair being held at different venues in the city.Excise Minister K Babu inaugurated the fair at SRV HSS, where the Maths fair is going on. Teams that stood first and second in the sub-district Science fair have modified their projects or have added more details in amazing ways at all the four venues - Science and IT fair is ongoing at Government Girls HSS, Social Science at St Antony’s HSS and Work Experience at St Albert’s HSS.Little minds from lower primary, upper primary, high school and higher secondary sections have touched upon major issues plaguing society and come out with cheap and smart solutions.A team from De Paul’s School, Angamaly, made models of fool proof anti-theft security system in vehicles. They have also made neo-natal care unit system. “The sensors in this system can help alert nurses about the change in heat and light inside the incubator,” they said.Suman and Nijin of SNV North Parur made a model of automated railway safety system. The signal lights near the tracks and the switches that are triggered by the touch of the wheel can alert the drivers and the respective station masters. They demonstrated ways to prevent collision of trains and burning of bogies. “We took the idea from a NCERT site,” they said.Students created mind-boggling projects in disaster management, energy production and conservation, earthquakes and their effects, automated street lighting system, burglar alarm etc. Contests in digital printing, Malayalam typing, multimedia presentation, web designing were also held.Step into SRV School and the wonders of the world of Maths unfold - cricket through trignomentry, football and other games were created in a mathematical way. Students captured glimpses of History and Geography on their charts put up at St Antony’s HSS.Displays in more than 100 items in Work Experience adorn the rooms of St Albert’s HSS. They include clay modelling, painting, doll making and many more. Colourful and aesthetic, each item bore the stamp of talent and patience. Quiz contests will be held on Friday followed by the valedictory ceremony in which prizes will be distributed.
