CHENNAI: The cracker traders, who are adamant in their stand of not moving to Island Grounds during this Deepavali season, have moved the Madras High Court again with a revision petition, on Thursday. Originally, while passing orders on a batch of writ petitions, Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar on October 10 had directed them to shift their business to Island Grounds and directed the Chennai Corporation and the Police Commissioner to make all arrangements by October 18.Challenging this order, the Chennai Fire Works Dealer Welfare Association, by its executive president KS Kaja Mohideen, preferred a writ appeal and the First Bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam directed the two agencies to expedite the accommodation process and complete the same within two days, on October 18.In their present revision petition, the association submitted that the construction of new temporary shops in Island Grounds involved more cumbsersome procedure with regard to safety. Since the Met department had announced that it was going to be a wet Deepavali, the shops had to be sealed and made water-proof. Otherwise, they would have to face huge loss, their senior advocate KM Vijayan submitted. The matter will come up tomorrow (October 21).
