CHENNAI: A 35-year-old town panchayat councillor has absconded after allegedly misbehaving with a grocery store owner near Tambaram on Wednesday. Police said Priya (21) (name changed) of Mettu Street, Thiruneermalai, ran a grocery store. She was living alone since she had separated from her husband. The councillor of ward 16, Thiruneermalai, used to frequent Priya’s shop where he allegedly had dues of Rs 200. On Wednesday she asked the councillor for her money. The councillor in turn asked her to come home and collect the amount. When she went to the councillor’s house, he made an advance at her. Priya wriggled out of his clutches and ran out of his house in tears. She immediately lodged a complaint at the Tambaram All Women Police Station.A case has been registered and the police are on the lookout for the councillor.Jailed for RapeIn another incident reported at Puzhal, a 20-year-old man was arrested for reportedly abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl. Sivakumar of Thirumalai Nagar, Kavangarai, who was employed at a mobile phone manufacturing company at Sriperumbadur, was arrested after he was tracked at Hosur. According to the police said the girl, a class ten student, lived in the same area as Sivakumar. They were reported missing a few days ago. Puzhal police traced the duo and he was arrested on charges rape and kidnap.
