BANGALORE: A police constable working in Peenya police station was attacked with hockey sticks by public, who were irked after he hit a 11-year-old boy by a four wheeler. The incident occurred near MES Layout near Sigenahalli under Peenya police station limits on Tuesday evening.
The constable, identified as Biradar, sustained severe injuries in the incident and he has been hospitalised.According to the police, a college student was eve teasing girls near a playground in MES Layout and the public passed the message to the police. Biradar, who was on cheetah patrol duty, was sent to the spot to assess the situation. When he went there, the public were allegedly manhandling the student, who was in a drunken state. To rescue him from public wrath, Biradar left the bike and took the student with him in a Scorpio car that belonged to the student as the latter was in an inebriated state. Biradar drover the car himself.

"As he went a bit further, a 11-year-old boy came cycling in his way and the constable hit the cycle, fracturing the boy's limb. The public who were already irked with the student's behaviour were enraged by the accident. They started assaulting the constable and the student and the public were joined by a group of youth who were playing hockey in the ground.

Later, other policemen reached the spot, pacified the mob and shifted the duo to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the injured boy was also shifted to a hospital. A case has been registered in Peenya police station.
