Agra: Timely intervention by the US embassy staff prevented a potential controvery around the visit of US Vice President Joe Biden's wife Jill to the Taj Mahal on Tuesday.
The video cameras are not allowed beyond a point in the Taj Mahal but the White House cameraperson kept shooting Jill Biden within the prohibited area as she walked towards main building of the 17th-century monument of love. The embassy staff was quick to realise the potential controversy as some local journalists started clicking White House cameraperson doing videography in the prohibited area.
The cameraperson was asked to come out of the prohibited area by the security and embassy staff to avoid any row. "This is an old of Supreme Court order wherein video cameras have been banned beyond the stairs of the South Gate as in those days, video cameras were too big and occupied too much space. But even though cameras are now way too smaller, rules are not being changed. So, we do not allow videography after a point and this applies even when Heads of the State visit Taj," a Senior official of the Archaeological Survey of India told PTI.
Jill Biden undertook a quick visit to the 17th century white marble marvel along with her daugter Ashley and son-in-law Howard Krein. After coming back, she scribbled on the visitor's book,"An extraordinary sight. Thank you for your hospitality."
