Congress on Tuesday vowed to back the JMM-led alliance 'wholly' after formation of the government in Jharkhand. "As we have promised to support, we will wholly back the JMM-led alliance," PCC president Sukdhdeo Bhagat said after walking out of the Raj Bhavan along with JMM leader Hemant Soren.
Interestingly, Madhu Koda's MLA wife Geeta was present when JMM Legislature Party leader Hemant Soren called on Governor Syed Ahmed to stake claim for formation of a ninth government in the state. Geeta Koda, independent MLA, has extended her support after Bhagat and other leaders called on her at her residence in Ranchi this morning.
Congress had in the past supported Madhu Koda as head of a coalition government in the state but had on July 23, 2008 asked him to resign or it would withdraw support. Koda, who is now in jail on charges of corruption and money laundering, resigned on August 23 that year, paving way to JMM's Shibu Soren to take over as chief minister on August 27.
But he too resigned on January 12, 2009 following his defeat in a bypoll. Geeta Koda told the leaders to focus on the development of Kolhan region, where her Jagannathpur assembly constituency and her husband s Chaibasa Lok Sabha constituency fall. Madhu Koda is in judicial custody from November 30, 2009 when he was arrested by the vigilance sleuths on corruption charges.
