The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said on Monday that there are no hurdles in the way towards working out a seat sharing formula with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, scheduled next year.
"If we sat and held meetings for the 2004 and 2009 general elections, then where's the problem in sitting across the table for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls," Maharashtra state Congress party chief Manikrao Thakre told reporters on Monday. Recently, union minister and senior NCP leader Praful Patel had said that both the Congress and the NCP would retain the "26-22 formula" in the state for the Lok Sabha polls.
"I wonder why discussions shouldn't be held. Deliberations should be held this time as well," Thakre said. However, he said that he was not aware about deliberations and decisions taken at the central level. Responding to another query, Thakre said that Maharashtra would be free of load shedding before elections are round the corner.
It is to be noted that senior NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had said earlier that the state would be free from load shedding by December 2012. Thakre asserted that the Congress in Maharashtra would fight the Lok Sabha polls under the leadership of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
