Congress Lingayat MLAs off to New Delhi
The delegation is expected to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday

Congress Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) belonging to Lingayat community have stepped up efforts to oust Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwar and install a leader from their community in the post.

A delegation of Congress MLAs and leaders belonging to Lingayat community left for Delhi on Sunday evening with twin demands: replace Parameshwar with KPCC treasurer Shyamanur Shivashankarappa, a Lingayat, and remove party affairs in-charge in Karnataka Madhusudhan Mistry.

Shyamanur would join MLAs in Delhi on Monday.

The delegation is expected to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday and apprise her about the necessity of giving due recognition to the largest community in the state.

“We will demand that the party high command makes Shyamanur Shivashankarappa, the KPCC president. We also try to convince her that the party has no future in Karnataka if the large community (Lingayat) is neglected,” Ramdurg MLA Ashok Pattan, who is leading the delegation said.

However, sources in Congress maintain that Sonia had not given appointment to the delegation and the MLAs would return empty-handed as the party high-command was in no mood to change the present leadership in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah has also gone to Delhi reportedly on the invitation of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi to discuss the party affairs in Karnataka.
