Coming, Pro-Koodankulam Congress protests

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee on Saturday decided that it would hold a State-wide protest in support of the nuclear plant in Koodankulam, stating that the move was a political reply to parties that have had now associated themselves with the anti-nuke campaign.

Speaking to Express, TNCC Chief B S Gnanadesikan said that the anti-nuke protestors had shown scant regard to the fact that the Supreme Court was seized of the matter with regards to the safety aspects of the plant.

“Without having any respect for the judicial procedure, they have announced that they would lay a siege to the plant on October 8,” he pointed out.

While Tamil Nadu was reeling under extreme power shortage, some political parties had joined the bandwagon of anti-nuke protests.

This, he said, had forced the hands of the Congress, which is of the opinion that a political reply now, was a necessity.

The campaign, to be organised on October 3, would involve protests in all district headquarters, he said adding   that circulars to this effect had been dispatched to district secretaries.
