Coir board makes giant strides

KOCHI: The Coir Board has exceeded the target set by the Union Government by 124 per cent for the financial year 2011-12.    During this period, 4,10,853.90  tonnes of coir products worth `1052.62 crore was exported.“This achievement was made possible only because of the efforts of the exporters, the small scale industries and the workers,” said the chairman of the Coir Board G Balachandran.There has been a perceptible increase in the market of export coir mats, coir handicrafts, coir pith and coir geotextiles.
