CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, on Wednesday, ordered additional supply of drinking water to some suburban areas of Chennai considering the satisfactory storage of the drinking water resources for Chennai city.At present, 790 million litres of water was being supplied to the residents of Chennai, the factories in the city and the local bodies coming under its jurisdiction from the Poondi reservoir, Cholavaram, Red Hills, Chembarambakkam and Veeranam lakes and the desalination plant in Minjur.Pallavaram, Pammal and Anakaputhur municipalities will get an additional water supply of 2.50 million litres, 0.20 million litres and 0.90 million litres respectively per day, while Pozhichalur village panchayat will receive an additional supply of 0.40 million litres per day. This additional supply will be made from the Alandur plant. Now, 18.75 million litres of water is supplied to the local bodies in the southern parts from Alandur.Similarly, following representations, an additional supply of two million litres per day would be given to Perungudi town panchayat from the distribution plant on the Rajiv Gandhi Road.
