HYDERABAD: The first meeting of YSR Congress party's central governing council (politburo) chaired by Kadapa MP elect YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday decided to once again prove "Jagan's popularity" in the local body elections. Besides strengthening the party from the grassroots level, it decided to continue its fight against the Congress government on public issues. The party targeted to enrol 20 percent of the total voters in each of the Assembly constituencies during the month-long membership drive which will begin in 10 days. Prior to it, village, mandal and constituencylevel committees will be formed.Speaking at the meeting held at the party office near Lotus Pond in Banjara Hill, Jagan said the party should win majority seats in local bodies to prove its strength. He said the enrollment should not be conducted on the lines of the Congress or TDP whose leaders sit in their offices or homes and fill the membership books. "I want the party cadre to visit each house in their areas and enrol members by collecting the fee," he said. The party will have discussions at the twoday plenary session at Idupulapaya in Kadapa on July 8 and 9 before formulating policies on Telangana, agriculture, industry, education etc.
