KOCHI: Various government and non-government organisations, educational institutions and residents associations in and around the city, on Thursday celebrated Women’s Day. The celebrations organised by the Kochi Corporation Council was inaugurated by Deputy Mayor B Bhadra. Welfare Standing Committee chairperson Essy Joseph presided over the function in which various women councillors staged various cultural programmes. The Women’s Day celebrations organised by Edappally Women Welfare Council was inaugurated by councillor V N Sarojini. The women’s wing of Cochin Port Employees Organisation (CPEO) organised an awareness seminar on cancer at Willingdon Island. Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) celebrated the International Women’s Day with a speech by Vivekananda Kendra Vedic Vision director M Lakshmi Kumari.
