THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Co-operative Institute of Management and Technology (CIMAT) is all set to start a premium, advanced training in Integrated IT and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Arguably, this will be first of its kind integrated programme in Kerala that will give students exposure to a wide range of IT skills and also offer a complete GIS curriculum as standard for all modules.  For this, CIMAT has tied up with Technopark-based Geotrans Technologies Ltd, one of the GIS companies in India to provide the curriculum, faculty and software for the same. The programme will be open for admission from Monday and the intake will be 25 students. A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analysing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows viewing, understanding, questioning, interpreting and visualising data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. The idea of the joint venture is to bring in the best of facilities, faculties and course materials on to one platform and offer students a package that is unmatched, said Dr Chandramohan, director, CIMAT. “The programme would also enable students to get placed in reputed companies across the country. The programme is open to all students who have either completed or still pursuing their Engineering, MCA or graduation in science courses,” he said.
