KOCHI: While the controversy sparked off by the Women’s Code Bill still fumes, the Catholic Church is all set to organise a state-level meeting of large families and honour couples having at least four children.The function named ‘Jeeva Samrudhi’, being organised under the initiative of the Family Commission of the Kerala Cathoic Bishops Council(KCBC) and the Chavara Cultural Centre, will be held on the Children’s Day on November 14. “The Church plans to honour at least 5,000 families in the next five months. The programme which starts on Children’s Day will come to an end with a conference to be held at Kollam on World Pro-life Day on March 25. Couples who have crossed 40 years and have five children will be honoured. Those who have got married after 1990 and have four or more children will also be honoured,’’said Fr Jose Kottayil, secretary of KCBC family commission.The families to be honoured will be identified by family apostalate directors at the Diocese level, parish councils and pro-life committees. Regional functions will be held at Kannur, Kozhikode, Kalpetta, Thrissur, Kottayam and Ernakulam to honour families. Syro-Malabar Church Major Archbishop Mar George Alenchery will inaugurate the function in Kochi.KCBC Family Commission chairman Mar Mathew Anikuzhikattil said the Church had plans to honour large families in other religions also in association with the Ecumenical Commission.
