Srinagar: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will review the security situation in Kashmir Valley on Tuesday and take stock of security arrangements for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
During his two-day visit, the Home Minister will chair a high-level security review meeting in the presence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior officials of the state police, para-military forces and representatives of state and Central Home department.
Chidambaram will later go to Pahalgam in south Kashmir where he will meet officials. The meeting is part of a series of interactions that the Home Minister started in 2010 with officials at the district level.
He will also review the development work in south Kashmir and security arrangements for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage which commences on June
29.
Chidambaram, who is accompanied by Director General of CRPF K Vijay Kumar, BSF Chief Raman Srivastava and senior MHA officials, will visit Neeru post manned by BSF in Gurez sector of North Kashmir where he will interact with jawans.
Soon after his arrival in Srinagar, the Home Minister held a meeting with Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan.
