KOCHI: The Election Commission has granted the district administration permission to proceed with a drinking water project aimed at solving the problem of water shortage in Cheranalloor panchayat.The district administration had to put the implementation of the project on hold after the model code of conduct came into force in the district, in connection with the Piravom byelection. Following this, the district administration sought clearance from the Election Commission to proceed with the project.District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said in a press release that the Election Commission had granted permission to invite tender for the Rs 4.15 lakh project, prepared by the Kerala Water Authority.The project includes laying of 800 metres of pipeline for supplying water. The funds for the project have been allotted from MLA’s Fund (Rs 2 lakh) and Collector’s Drought Relief Fund (Rs 2.15 lakh).
