BANGALORE: On her maiden meeting, Mayor Sharadamma witnessed a chaotic meeting in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP) council. The turbulent session began when she announced the nomination from the BBMP into serving into the Boards of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the City Central Library. Opposition leaders protested against their noninclusion into the election process along with suggestions that the existing two members per Board into four, including one member from the opposition parties. The meeting was adjourned for 10 minutes when the opposition parties insisted on their inclusion.
A N Purushotham from Arakere and B S Venkataswamy Naidu from Chikkalsandra were nominated to represent the BBMP in the BDA boards, while Veena Nagaraj from Hemmigepura and B Govindraj from HBR layout were nominated for the City Central Library Board. The BJP approved 11 subjects while deferring 15 subjects, out of the 26 subjects tabled in the meeting.Former Congress floor Leader M Nagaraj raised the issue of security and asked for the removal of the skywalk near Sophia High School as there were many advertisements on the skywalk. He said that it posed as a security threat as there was high VIP movement there and also close to many important buildings of the city. Retorting to this, BBMP Commissioner Siddiah said that there was no permission given and advertisements would be removed from the location.
