Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the new dialysis unit at the Ernakulam General Hospital here on Sunday.
“Measures will be initiated for the timely disbursement of the Karunya Benevolent Scheme,” he said.
Responding to Hibi Eden MLA’s request to make the Karunya Benevolent Scheme plausible, by bringing down the time lag incurred in the disbursement of funds, the Chief Minister said that measures will be taken to come up with a suitable solution.
“Owing to the time lag, the patients are not benefiting from the scheme. The matter will be seriously dealt with,” he said.
Chandy said that though there are hospitals that can provide better service to the dialysis patients, the common man is unable to avail of it, owing to the high expense. “Keeping this in view, measures will be taken to initiate dialysis units that could be of immense help to the kidney patients in all the districts,” said the CM.
He said that various agencies have shown a keen interest to take up such noble causes. “Their efforts will be taken into account to pursue such initiatives in all the districts,” he said.
The dialysis centre was set up with an outlay of `1.5 crore. There are 12 modern machines in the newly set up centre. The district administration has contributed `31. 5 lakh, NRHM `30 lakh and Rotary Club of Cochin Global `30 lakh, for the dialysis centre. Charles Diaz MP, Dr K P Hussain Sai and Sai Trust joined hands to distribute the dialysis machine for the centre. The registration fee at the hospital is `100.
Hibi Eden presided over the meet. Excise Minister K Babu, PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju, Mayor Tony Chammany, Dominic Presentation MLA, Ludi Luis MLA, district panchayat president Eldose Kunnappally, Deputy Mayor Bhadra and Health standing committee chairman T K Ashraf were also present on the
