HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation intends to investigate the monetary benefits that suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi acquired by granting iron ore mine lease to the Obulapuram Mining Company and suspects that the benefits she got in return for doing the favour were invested in benami names. The investigating agency found that Srilakshmi’s close relative acquired many properties during her tenure as secretary (industries). It was while her stint as secretary in the department when Karnataka former minister Gali Janardhan Reddy’s Obulapuram Mining Company secured iron ore mining leases in the state. She was secretary (industries and commerce) from May 2006 to October 10, 2009.The CBI, in its investigation, said that they had come to know that Srilakshmi’s brother-in-law, M Rakesh Babu, acquired many properties during 2005-2009. “Investigation revealed that the financial sources of Rakesh Babu do not commensurate with the value of the properties acquired by him,’’ the CBI said in a supplementary chargesheet filed before the special court for CBI cases on March 30.Evidence in this regard is being collected and is being separately analysed. “Investigation into the aspect of monetary benefits obtained by Srilakshmi for the favours shown to the other accused is in progress,” the CBI said and told the court that it would submit the same after complete investigations. In its 48-page supplementary chargesheet, CBI said that Srilakshmi deleted the clause Captive Mining while granting lease to OMC but she rejected lease to some other applicants as they applied for captive mining.
