BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths on Friday raided 10 different places in Cuttack and two other districts in connection with a Rs 1.5 crore loan granted to a retired announcer of All India Radio (AIR).The loan was granted to Rita Bisal, the AIR announcer, and her daughter Mahasweta Bisal for the purpose of setting up a small and medium enterprise (SME).The loan was sanctioned by two different banks - Bidyadharpur branch of State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda’s Buxi Bazar branch. That was in 2005.However, the loanees apparently defaulted payment which prompted the banks to look into the whole process once again. It was then the documents submitted by the loanees were re-verified and some of them allegedly turned out to be fabricated, CBI sources said.The banks, on their part, served notices to the loanees but in vain.Later, a petition was filed before the Orissa High Court with a prayer for CBI inquiry into the matter. The central agency which received the HC order last month began investigation and conducted raids at eight different places in Cuttack and two places in Angul and Bhubaneswar.Besides Bisals, three senior employees of SBI, an empanelled advocate, an officer of Bank of Baroda came under the CBI raid. Three persons who were presented as guarantors for the loan were also saw their premises raided by the CBI sleuths.
