HYDERABAD: The CBI sought permission from a court to record before a judge the statement of A Suryanarayana Reddy alias Sureedu, a close confidant of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in Emaar and Jagan’s illegal assets cases. The CBI had questioned Sureedu and even recorded his statement earlier. The CBI is of the opinion that Sureedu, once considered a ‘shadow’ of Rajasekhara Reddy, is in the know of things that took place during the latter’s regime, including the source of investments into Jagathi Publications.Hailing from Timmalapally village in Tsundur mandal of Kadapa district, Sureedu completed his SSC and with the help of a local sarpanch got the job as a worker in the Congress party office there. Slowly, he got acquainted with Rajasekhara Reddy who was a mandal-level leader then.From the party office, he was shifted to Rajasekhara Reddy’s house at Pulivendula and later to Hyderabad. It was in 1975 when Rajasekhara Reddy was attacked by his rivals Sureedu saved the former chief minister. Since then till the death of Rajasekhara Reddy, Sureedu followed the former as a shadow and was even given an official posting.
