HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a petition in the special court for CBI cases on Tuesday for inclusion of the name of Mehfooz Ali Khan, personal assistant of Gali Janardhan Reddy, as Accused No 7 in the alleged illegal iron ore mining case. An engineering graduate, 30-year Ali Khan, had been absconding since the arrest of Janardhan Reddy but was arrested recently by the Bangalore CBI in a case related to the illegal mining by the OMC in that state. The CBI raided the office and residence of Ali Khan in Bellary and recovered laptops and other documents. In the memo the CBI said Khan played an important role in maintaining records of Gali Janardhan Reddy and OMC. “There is crucial evidence against him in the illegal mining case.’’ The CBI said it found that Ali Khan forced a firm dealing in iron ore, Mehboob Traders, to sell iron at a cheaper rate to Devi Enterprises, owned by him. Further, the CBI claimed, his laptop had all the details of iron ore exports made by OMC to overseas firms.
