BHUBANESWAR: The CBI on Wednesday arrested a section officer of the BSNL while accepting a bribe of Rs 500 from a person here. Ranjit Sahu, section officer with the office of the Executive Engineer (Civil), had reportedly sought the gratification to issue a cheque to Prabhat Nanda, a resident of Nimapara. Since the BSNL had set up a base tower on Nanda’s homestead land, the latter used to get a monthly rent of ` 1,400. At times, he had to run from pillar to post for getting his dues although Nanda had requested BSNL to deposit the rent in his bank account. When Nanda did not get the rent for the last three months, he came to the BSNL office here but was allegedly told by Sahu to cough up ` 500. He lodged a complaint with CBI and a trap was laid. The CBI sleuths caught Sahu red-handed accepting the bribe.
