The Home Department has issued orders on Friday for a Crime Branch (CB) probe into the bank loan fraud committed by a group of estate owners in Nelliampathy by pledging forest land.
The Crime Branch probe was first recommended in a letter by Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radakrishnan requesting an inquiry by a special investigation team into the issue.
The Home Department recommended a Crime Branch probe into the incident.
A Crime Branch special investigation team will be formed to probe all the cases in which the estate owners in Nelliampathy obtained loan by pledging forest land in the bank.
A total amount of Rs 14 crore was taken from various banks and six cases regarding this had been registered.
