The Delhi airport police have arrested a man attempting to travel with a fake Swedish visa. During the investigation, he revealed paying Rs 10 lakh to a travel agent for it.
The man, identified as Sandeep, a resident of Kurukshetra district in Haryana, was caught at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi when his documents were verified at the visa counter, revealing that his Swedish visa was fake. Sandeep had planned to travel to Rome to earn a living.
The Delhi Police registered an FIR under the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita and began investigating the case. Sandeep revealed that he was influenced by some peers in his village who had gone abroad to earn money, prompting him to seek a better livelihood overseas.
Sandeep was introduced to a travel agent, Asif Ali, through a villager named Manjot. The agent promised to send him to any European country in exchange for money. Sandeep deposited Rs 7 lakh into two different bank accounts provided by the agent and paid an additional Rs 3 lakh in cash. As per the agreement, the agent, with the help of his associates, arranged the tickets and a fake Swedish visa for Sandeep’s trip to Rome.
Based on Sandeep’s information, the Delhi Police arrested Asif Ali, who later confessed to his crime. In his statement, Asif revealed that he had studied up to Class 12 and had been working as a travel agent for several years to make quick money. During interrogation, he admitted that he, along with his associates, cheated people by promising to send them abroad and provide job opportunities.
The Delhi Police is investigating the case and looking into the possible involvement of other agents. They are examining the accused’s bank accounts to uncover any links to similar fraudulent activities.
The Delhi Police have advised travelers to obtain their travel documents only through authorized agencies. They also warned against fraudulent agents offering cheap rates for overseas travel. The police urged people to verify the authenticity of agencies and thoroughly check all documents to avoid legal issues and travel disruptions.
