Chandigarh: Haryana Government on Wednesday announced a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh on Vijender for assuring a boxing medal in Beijing Olympics.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that Vijender, who is an Inspector in the Haryana Police, would also be promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
A boxing academy in the name of Vijender, a resident of Bhiwani, would also be started, he added.
An official spokesman said that the earlier award of Rs 25 lakh announced for Vijender when he qualified for the quarterfinal has been enhanced to Rs 50 lakh since he has assured a bronze medal.
