CHENNAI: Three engineering students were roughed up by the public after their car hit a motorcycle rider on the Old Mahabalipuarm Road near Madhya Kailash, injuring him seriously before hitting the road median and turning turtle.Eyewitnesses said that the car, coming at break neck speed towards the Madhya Kailash junction from the direction of Tidel Park, first hit the motorcyclist, lost control and hit the road divider on the left. It then took a few tumbles before coming to rest. While the motorcyclist sustained bleeding injuries, the three engineering students in the car, all of them reportedly studying in Anna University, escaped unharmed, the eyewitnesses added. The accident occurred around 1 pm.The policemen on duty at the junction summoned an ambulance and sent off the injured motorcyclist. A crowd had by then gathered there to help out the victim. On seeing the three students standing by the road, the crowd was enraged and roughed up the trio. The policemen had to intervene before the free-for-all turned ugly for the three students.Guindy traffic investigation wing registered a case.
