CHENNAI: Four passengers had a lucky escape when the car in which they were travelling caught fire at Aminjikarai on Monday.Sources said that Prakash, a businessman and resident of Kattur village in Ponneri, was proceeding in his car to the passport office on Nelson Mancikam Road with his wife and friends Somasekar and Kumar. Near Aminjikarai, Prakash noticed smoke emitting from the car’s air-conditioning unit. As they got out to check, the car was engulfed in flames. A police team soon arrived on the scene and the fire was extinguished by fire and rescue service personnel with the help of locals. Aminjikarai police are investigating the incident.Burglars Steal Seven Sovereigns Burglars broke into a house and decamped with jewels at Kumaran Nagar on Monday.Sources said, Neelamegam (42), a resident of Fourth Street, Karani Gardens, visited his daughter in Tambaram on Saturday. On returning, Neelamegam found the front door of his house broken and seven sovereigns stolen.In another incident, burglars broke into a photo studio on Muthiah Street on Bharathi Salai in Triplicane. The studio owner, Krishnamurthy, claimed that he closed the shop on December 14. However, when he reopened it on Sunday, Krishnamurthy found three still cameras and a video camera stolen. Investigations are underway.
