Cannes 2013: Amitabh speaks in Hindi at the opening
'The Great Gatsby' opened the festival, in which Amitabh Bachchan has played a special role.

New Delhi: Amitabh Bachchan made the Hindi film industry proud by speaking in Hindi at the opening ceremony of the Cannes International Film Festival 2013. Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby' opened the prestigious film festival, and Amitabh Bachchan has played a special role in the film. Cannes 2013 is also celebrating the 100 years of Indian cinema this year.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "Acknowledging Cannes in recognising 100 yrs of Indian Cinema, it was absolutely imperative for me to address, in my Mother tongue!"

He also said, "Director of Cannes delighted to hear the 'music of the Hindi language' spoken, it brought in the universality of the occasion!"

He further said, "For a complete alien in the midst of Cannes to be acknowledged, is the proudest moment for me as an Indian."

Big B will soon be joined by his family members at Cannes, "Media tomorrow, and then wait for the 'bahurani' to arrive with 'bitiya', meet them and get on plane back to London and then home!"
