CHENNAI: The Jain International Women Organisation (JIWO) is organising a Cancer Awareness Programme today at EVK Sampath Road, Vepery. The awareness programme will be addressed by Dr Sunitha Singhi, Dr Kawsalya , Dr Mallika, Dr Vihu Bala and Shobha Gulecha. The Medical test for Jain ladies shall be undertaken on April 8 from 7am to 7 pm. Registration for the tests are on a first come first serve basis.The programme aims to assess the general health status of women. It emphasises upon the importance of a routine health check up. Most women in India are anaemic and diabetes is on the rise and menstrual disturbances are not considered to be abnormal anymore. The programme strives to remove the fear from the minds of the women by creating awareness about the common cancers and the importance of early detection by regular health check up. Tests included in the camp are: Blood test, TSH and random sugar, pap smear (for cervical cancer), transvaginal ultrasound and breast examination by a medico. For details, call 98410 49999
