London: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has emerged as the biggest selling game of 2007, according to sales figures.
The game’s publisher Activision has revealed that it has sold over seven million units since its launch in November.
The findings are based on sales figures from research firms The NPD Group, Chart Track and The GFK Group.
Despite being released six weeks after Halo 3, which earned more than ₤84 million in sales in its first 24 hours on release, Call of Duty 4 has managed to sell more units.
"We're very excited about this achievement especially given so many competitive titles this year," the BBC quoted Will Kassoy of Activision as saying.
Developed by Infinity Ward, Call of Duty 4 is available for PC, PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360.
The game, which follows the story of a American and British Special Forces in Russia and the Middle East, won the ‘Best Action Game’ award at the video game industry's leading event, E3.
It also won the Spike TV awards for Best Shooter and Best Military Game.
