New Delhi: US President George W Bush's popularity is at an all-time low of 30 per cent following his State of Union speech this week, a Newsweek magazine poll found.
And it will probably get worse. The opinion poll shows 71 per cent of the respondents said they felt the President won't have enough support during the next two years to implement his policies.
While 58 per cent of the respondents said they wished the Bush presidency would end, something that 86 per cent Democrats want and a clear majority of 59 per cent among independents and 21 per cent Republicans.
The poll indicated that the voters did not want a Republican President and would like a Democrat to head the country.
Among the leading 2008 presidential candidates, Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton of New York was favored over Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona 50 per cent to 44 per cent.
About 49 per cent of all registered voters would want to see a Democrat elected as President in 2008, compared to just 28 per cent who would prefer a Republican to remain in the White House.
