PUDUCHERRY: The Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) at JIPMER is conducting a breast cancer awareness programme on October 15 on its premises to address the growing concerns due to the rise in beast cancer.According to RCC, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women across the globe. The incidence of breast cancer during 1998-2002 ranged from 24.4 (Pune) to 29.2 (New Delhi) per one lakh women . The incidence rate in Chennai has increased from 19.9 to 26.6 per one lakh population sample.Indian patients mostly come forward for treatment at the later stages of the disease which reduces their chances of getting cured. There is a need to spread awareness of the methods of early detection of breast cancer. The compliance of treatment and regular follow ups are two important factors, post-detection of breast cancer. All these factors need to be discussed with patients.
