Biju Patnaik University of Technology's (BPUT) decision to shift its office to Rourkela has sparked an agitation by the BPUT students. The students are on a strike for the past six days, protesting against the proposal by BPUT to shift its base to Rourkela.
"If they do shift to Rourkela, it will be difficult for the students to approach the BPUT officials if any problem arises," said one of the agitating students. The BPUT has been facing a huge staff crunch for quite some time now. Inadequacy of staff has led to problems like delay in publication of results.
"Around 80 per cent of the engineering colleges are located in and around Bhubaneswar," said another agitating student.
The agitating students are complaining that the BPUT officials are shifting base so that they do not have to deal with the students' problems anymore.
