Boulder damages hutments

VELLORE: A boulder from the top of the Chenganatham hills near Vellore damaged a couple of hutments in the foothills on Saturday. No one was hurt as the residents, mostly coolies, had gone out when the incident took place.The rolling of the boulder was due to the incessant rains for two days. Eco-activities however blamed the local administration for the lack of tree cover in the hills which could have prevented the boulder from rolling down. However, due to the efforts of the forest department and many local NGOs here, the rolling down of boulders in Sathuvachari, Saidapet and  Salavanpettai has drastically reduced recently.
