In a bid to keep tab of the vehicles coming to and exiting from the city, the police are all set to conduct Border Sealing using high definition cameras this Onam onwards.
The police control room has been equipped with high-definition cameras at entry and exit points enabling them to keep record of all the vehicles entering and leaving the city.
According to sources in the Police Control Room, the project which would be the first of its kind will have cameras worth more over Rs 2 lakh installed at five border points of the city. Unlike other cameras installed in the traffic points, the cameras for the Border Sealing will be a more powerful one.
The cameras will be installed at Aroor, Muttom, Varappuzha, Puthenkavu and Cithrapuzha entry and exists points.
The high-definition cameras will take the picture of the vehicle’s number plate and the data will be stored in the computer system of the control room for more than a year. The cameras can rotate and take the picture of all the vehicles passing through these points. This will enable the police to check vehicles that have been used for criminal activities and also to track down the doubtful ones,” sources said.
According to T S Joseph, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Control Room, work to install cameras is underway. “The work has already started and we hope they will be functional before Onam,” T S Joseph said.
T S Joseph said a more advanced system of security would be used during this Onam season.
“The whole city will be monitored with the assistance of security cameras. Many shopkeepers have extended the surveillance camera output to Police Control under Integrated Security System. The shops, business instalments, malls, streets, junctions and entry and exist points of the city will be monitored using cameras. Police personnel will be ready to take action if any incidents come to our notice through cameras,” he said.
