New Delhi: Emerging Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and his new Pakistani doubles partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi advanced to the quarter-finals of the Challenger tournament in Segovia, Spain, after they weathered the storm by American American James Cerretani and Lukas Rosol on Tuesday.
The Indian-Pakistani pair, seeded third in the tournament, got themselves in a real spot of bother after wrapping up the first set 6-4, to lose the second 4-6.
The duo brushed aside stiff resistance from their American counterparts in the third and final set, overcoming the challenge 10-6 to make it into the last eight of the $1,25,000 event.
Bopanna's compatriot Mustafa Ghouse, also taking part in the doubles edition of the tournament along with Frank Moser of Germany, are seeded fourth in the competition. The pair will face wild card Spanish pair of Guilermo Alcaide and Oscar Burrieza.
Bopanna is playing the singles event as well and is up against Swiss qualifier Michel Kratochvil.
