MYSORE: The bodies of the two Britons who had gone missing after they went for river rafting in the Cauvery, were recovered near Mekedatu in Ramanagaram district on Friday. The body of Turton Ian Richard (45) was found at 9 am, while that of Michael David John Easton (40), was found at 5.30 pm on Friday. In a three-day search operation, more than 30 rescue teams, including the Madras Army Regiment was pressed into service to trace the foreigners. After the bodies were sent for autopsy, Ramanagaram Superintendent of Police Anupam Agarwal said the Britons crashed into the sharp rocks in the river and severely injured their heads after their air boat got punctured. Their bodies went under the rocks and this delayed tracing them. Rafting is banned, but the adventurous Britons had defied the law, he said. The bodies will be flown to their country from Bangalore after an autopsy in Sathnur, he added.Easton was a senior technical person with R&D Division of Shell Company in Bangalore, while Richard worked as a Project Manager with Tenneco Automotive India Private Ltd in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Both of them went river rafting on May 19. The incident came to light after a cab driver who was to pick them from Anchetti forest in Denkanikottai, Tamil Nadu, informed Halagur police when the foreigners did not turn up. Shell Company had deployed a helicopter to trace Easton. The chopper found the air boat containing a bag in which a mobile phone was found on Wednesday. Ramanagaram Deputy Commissioner Sriram Reddy, ASP Shanthanu Sinha, tahsildar Dakshahini and other officials had camped at the spot.
