BANGALORE: The Bangalore City Unit of BJP on Wednesday demanded the State Government to announce a special grant of Rs 2,000 crore to BBMP to repay its debts and also to take up various infrastructure works.A resolution to this effect was passed in the City BJP Executive Committee meeting held here on Wednesday. “Considering the poor fiscal health of the BBMP, it is necessary that the State Government provided financial assistance to take-up development works,” the resolution said. This apart, the meeting also requested the State Government to put pressure on the Centre for gas allocation from the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin for the proposed gas based power plant near Bidadi to meet the electricity demand of the IT city. “The basic works on the Bidadi plant are already nearing completion. What we need is the allocation of gas. The Centre should immediately allocate gas from the KG basin,” the resolution said. With the growing incidents of fire, the meeting felt an urgent need to set up a disaster management cell consisting of trained staff. The meeting urged the BBMP to work towards putting in place a scientific garbage disposal system using advanced technology. The meeting, however, maintained stoic silence on the alleged corruption in the BBMP and blamed the Opposition of making false allegations against the ruling BJP. “At a time when the BBMP is becoming pro-active to achieve overall development, the opposition parties are making false allegations for publicity,” the resolution said.
