CUTTACK: Senior leader LK Advani’s silence on corruption in Naveen Patnaik Government throughout the Jan Chetna Yatra in Orissa and his not ruling out a possible future alliance with BJD seems to have made the State BJP unit jittery. So much so that the leaders have come out in public appealing the leader to not even harbour such a thought. Even as Advani was ready to conclude his Orissa leg of the Yatra in Cuttack, State BJP president Jual Oram took to the stage raising the issue of the BJD-BJP alliance in the State. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the BJD had insulted not only the party but also Advani in the manner in which they severed the 10-year-old ties. “Naveen Patnaik did not even care to take the call of Advaniji when he announced break-up of the alliance. Such an insult cannot be tolerated. Whatever you may think, the BJP in the State and the workers here cannot even dream of reconciling with the BJD’s act and forming an alliance,” he said virtually pleading before the former deputy prime minister in the presence of Ravi Shankar Prasad, Vijay Goel, Chandan Mitra and other State leaders. Earlier in the day, Advani had acknowledged that the relationship between the State units of both the parties was really tense. But he had not ruled out possibility of any future alliance. He consciously avoided attacking Naveen on corruption issues in the same breath as he castigated Manmohan Singh Government at the Centre.
