KOLLAM: In a desperate attempt to mask his fraudulent deals as a political conspiracy, Leader of Opposition V S Achuthanandan has been putting the blame on other tainted leaders, BJP state spokesman George Kurien said here on Friday.Criticising Achuthanandan’s remarks that the Vigilance case charged against him was part of a conspiracy against him to put a halt to his anti-graft campaigns, Kurien said,“VS alleges Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty, Kerala Congress (B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai, police officer Tomin J Thachankary and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, behind hatching the conspiracy. He is trying to cover up his own tainted stature, by dragging in these names often associated with corruption and abuse of power,” he said. The BJP spokesperson said that as a leader who portrays himself as a man of principle, VS was answerable to the people on the charges levelled against him and not to the tainted leaders of the ruling front.Commenting on Achuthanandan’s claim that the allocation of land to P K Soman based on an application filed in 1977 is in accordance with the norms, he said that the former Minister should then answer as to why he had turned a blind eye towards the legitimate claim of adivasis for land. The VS- led government had turned down thousands of applications from impoverished adivasis seeking land during its tenure, he added. The charges levelled by VACB has exposed the anti-graft stand of VS, he said.
