BJP government unnecessarily delayed metro project: Ashok Gehlot
He claimed that the government was making a "wrong report" about the project so that people could be misguided on the issue.

Jaipur: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot welcomed the Raje government's decision to commence commercial operations of Jaipur Metro from next month, but alleged the BJP dispensation "unnecessarily delayed" the project.

The metro rail project in the Pink City is set to begin from June 3.

The former chief minister also asked the government to soon start work on second phase of the metro project.

He said it was worth welcoming that the metro was commencing commercial operations next month, although alleging that the BJP government "unnecessarily delayed" the project, which was started by the previous Congress government led by him.

Gehlot said that the government should also soon start work on the second phase of the metro, from Sitapura-Ambabari and covering a distance of 22 km, so that public transport system in the city could be improved further.

He also alleged that the government was "misleading" people over the issue of an oil refinery which was to be set up in Barmer, an ambitious project of the previous government.

He claimed that the government was making a "wrong report" about the project so that people could be misguided on the issue.

The BJP government last year announced to renegotiate the project with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

As proposed during the Congress rule, HPCL was to set up the oil refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Barmer.
